Thoracic Surgeon

Thoracic Surgeon

A thoracic surgeon is a medical doctor who performs operations on the heart, lungs, esophagus, and other organs in the chest. This also includes surgeons who can be called cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, general thoracic surgeons, and congenital heart surgeons.

Average Salary: $350,000 - $500,000

Educational Requirements:

Thoracic surgeons have to graduate from medical school and most commonly will go on to complete a five year general surgery residency. After this they must successfully matriculate through an approved cardiothoracic surgery residency program for either two or three years. Some thoracic surgeons choose to do additional training in sub-specialized are but this training is largely optional, except for congenital heart surgery.

Question: Would you like to be a Thoracic Surgeon? Why or why not?

Answer: OF COURSE I WOULDN'T WANT TO BE A THORACIC SURGEON. I'M NOT EVEN CONSIDERING BEING ANY KIND OF SURGEON. I HATE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH BLOOD IN TERMS WHERE IT'S SOMEONE ELSE'S BLOOD AND SURGERY WITH WEIRD TOOLS. I'M SORRY BUT NO I WOULD NEVER BE A THORACIC SURGEON OR ANY KIND OF SURGEON. I WOULD NEVER CONSIDER THAT PROFESSION. EVER.
